Electricity Conservation Tips
- Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL's) are a great alternative
to traditional bulbs. CFL's use 70% less electricity than
regular light bulbs and last several years longer. They also
give off the same light quality as regular bulbs; nothing
like old-style fluorescent tubes. CFL's cost a little more,
but save
considerably more money AND electricity in the long run.
- Increase the temperature on the air conditioner thermometer
by 3 degrees. This can save over 900kWh per year, over $100
annually and over 900 pounds of carbon dioxide each year.
- Keep furnaces maintianed - a properly maintained furnace
can save
up to 10% on heating costs.
- Enable the sleep mode feature during
periods of inactivity and configure them to "hibernate" automatically
after 30 minutes or so.
- Keep light bulbs clean, dust can cut
light output by as much as 25%.
- Turn off all unnecessary
lights in unused offices and conference rooms.
- Buy ENERGY
STAR office equipment and appliances.
